CDS Cheer Team Makes It to States!

The girls on the Varsity Cheerleading Team have taken on the opportunity to compete and show off their skills. They took on multiple competitions and even went to States. In total the team competed at regionals, states, and three other competitions where they weren’t keeping score. At the competitions, the girls competed against many other great teams such as Mitchell High School and Steinbrenner High School. The girls competed in three head to head competitions in total. The Varsity team planned to compete at Gaither, but the competition was canceled due to COVID. The other head to heads were held at Xcel 360, Calvary Christain, and even here at CDS. At the regional competition, the Varsity team placed 4th.

Even at a disadvantage, due to many of the girls never cheering before, the girls made it to States and competed at UF in Gainesville. The girls performed an amazing routine and placed 5th against many other great teams. The girls worked hard and practiced a lot to make sure they were ready for competition. When asked about how many practices were held, Elizabeth S, a freshman on the team, said “Depending on the week, anywhere between 1-5 days but mostly 2-3 days on average.” At States, the girls hit all of their stunts, performed a great dance, and showed off their crowd engagement. The girls performed a stunning zero point deduction routine. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t make it on to the next round of competitions, but out of 6 other teams only two would have moved on. When not competing, the girls enjoyed meals together, which helped with team bonding.

When not on the mat, the girls enjoyed a team dinner at BJs. Elizabeth S said that she enjoyed talking and hanging out with the other girls. Elizabeth S stated, “Yes, I had fun and I hung out mostly with the freshman, seniors, and sophomores.” In the end, if the girls were cheering or just hanging out with each other, the team did amazing and can’t wait to learn and perform new skills.
