Girls Basketball Regionals Semi-Finals
Jennifer Nolen
The girl’s varsity basketball team had played many awesome games over the course of the season. The varsity team practiced hard and played even harder. They had 6 practices per week, and each practice was 2.5-3 hours long. The girl’s team consists of 9 players. This season, the girls played in a winning game against Brooks Debartolo, which will forever be remembered at CDS.
After learning about the team as a whole, the staff at The Patriot Press wanted to interview both a freshman and a senior. We interviewed the freshman Addie F.
Q: How did you train for the game?
A: To practice for the game, 2 days before was a scrimmage against our coaches and a few practice players. The day before the game we had a light practice where we ran through our plays, got shots up, and stretched.
Q: How stressful was the game while you were playing?
A:The game wasn’t stressful but it was more exciting because we lost to Brooks DeBartolo in the same game last year.
Q: What are the next steps to prepare for the next big game?
A: For the next game we will work on finishing around the rim and executing our plays.
Q: How was your experience as a freshman playing during the game?
A: My experience as a freshman was really exciting and a little nerve wracking because when we played Brooks DeBartolo the year before I didn’t get to experience what it’s like playing in their gym with their crowd.
Q: Why was this game memorable for you personally?
A: I will remember this game because of the energy in the hallway when we left the floor.
For our senior interview, the staff wanted to interview BrieAnn eanne H.
Q: How did you train for the game?
A: We go over plays practice defense. We also play against grown men.

A: Depending on the importance of the game it can get really stressful.
Q: What are the next steps to prepare for the next big game?
A: Practice, Practice, Practice and watching film
Q: How was your experience as a senior playing during the game?
A: My experience as a senior was great this year, It was way better than I expected. There was a lot of responsibilityresponsblictly that was given to me. Also as a senior, you have to be more mature and a better communicator
Q: Why was this game memorable for you personally?
A: It’s a tie, the gulf coast game and my senior night. The reason I love the gulf coast game was because it was the first game we played that was really a huge challenge and I was so nervous to play and we won, I also played really well. Now my senior night was FANTASTIC, I realized I had so many people who cared about me and to see them all in one gym cheering me on was the best thing in the world.
When the girls went to Brooks Debartolo, they girls warmed up and got ready to play. BrieAnnBrieanne H. stated: “The game started off slow. We were down by 12 at the half. We had one heck of a half time chat. During the 3rd quarter we started locking down on defense and only letting the other team score 2 points. We were catching up slowly and we were still down but only by 4 points. Then the 4th quarter was when things started getting exciting. It was a back and forth battle with the score but in the last 2 minutes we were up by 3. And during the last minute we were up by 1. With 0.5 seconds on the clock, Brooks Debartolo had the ball. The time ran out and then… we won YAY !!!” The ending score was 31-30 with CDS ending on top. The girls team moved on to the finals,. andThe girls team moved on to and playedplay Cardinal Mooney. Unfortunately the girls lost 62-43.
