February 13, 2022 – biggest game of football for all fans, coaches, and players. The game that everyone plays for to crown themselves in NFL history forever. The game that these players and coaches fight to get to. The game that defines teams and shows us the best of the best. This historic game took place at brand new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This is the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. The Rams are just the second team ever after last year’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers to host a Super Bowl at home. In Super Bowl 56 the Rams hosted the Cincinnati Bengals. This was the Bengals first time being in the Super Bowl since 1989, looking to get their first Super Bowl win.

The game began slowly as these teams throughout the playoffs were in some low scoring affairs. The Bengals have won on the leg of kicker Evan McPherson in the last two games. Cincinnati started the game off risky going for it on fourth down, but failed to convert. On Los Angeles’ second drive of the game they took the ball down the field and scored the first touchdown of the Super Bowl. The touchdown was caught by Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr, who had a great game until he tore his ACL in the second quarter. The receiver was in tears as this was his first time in the Super Bowl after a long career in football to get to this point. The Bengagls came back with a field goal to make the score seven to three. The first quarter was a low scoring back and forth, but was only building up to a bigger match up.

Both teams came into the second quarter with a touchdown as the Rams had a quick six play drive to Cooper Kupp. The Bengals responded with a pass from Running Back Joe Mixon to Wide Revier Tee Higgins. The Rams attempted to pick up the speed heading towards the two minute warning. Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw an interception giving the ball back to the red hot Bengals, but Cinccintati did not get anything out of it as they punted the ball right back to the Rams as the first half ended. As the first half ended came the most anticipated part of the whole game, the Halftime show featuring Dr. DRE, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige. Check for a story on the halftime show.

In the second half the Bengals had a quick drive and got on the board quickly making the score 17- 13. The Rams could not respond as they threw another interception and Cinncintati took a lot of time off the clock and got a field goal to make the game 20-13. The Rams got back into a groove with more field goals adding to their sccore to make it a four point game. Both teams exchange punts for the whole rest of the third quarter and for most of the fourth quarter. The Rams made a final push to take the lead with a touchdown to Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, leaving the Rams with a 23-20 lead. The Bengals made a final push, but the Rams top ranked defense made a stop on fourth down as Quarterback Joe Burrow, unable to do anything with his offensive line, the Rams became the second team to win a Super Bowl at home.

The drama now starts with the draft and free agency, as we will wait until August of 2022 to watch football again. The Los Angeles Rams are the 2021 NFL Champions, which concludes the 2021-2022 NFL season.
